I don't know if there are a lot of Hakka people in Penang, but got to know from SN there is 客家擂茶 in town! After hiking, we went to Hakka Connexion for brunch.
As you can see, the shop is nicely oriental decorated.
Let's talk about some food now ;)
The dessert, yuba barley gingko nut 白果腐竹薏米 @ RM 2. Oh I've forgotten to ask KH/CM if it is nice :p AS and I ordered their home made nutmeg juice 豆蔻水 @ RM 1.50 per cup, I felt it is a bit sweet. HF, I missed your grandmom's homemade nutmeg juice still ;)
The Hakka noddle 客家面 @ RM 3 with homemade sauce. Hmm, I still like Ipoh Hakka's noodle :p But I felt this is smoother than that at Pantai Jerejak. Different chef will have different Hakka noodle preparation, with/without thick soy sauce. Remember to stir the noodle before eat as the sauce are all at the bottom.
The Hakka Lei Cha 客家擂茶 and its soup @ RM 6. I guess the ingredient are cabbage 包菜, bayam 芫菜, dried vegetable 菜圃, long bean 长豆, peanut 花生, and 树仔菜. The waiter recommends to pour the soup into the ingredients, stir and eat. But I have other preferences in eating Lei Cha. I like to get another small empty bowl, put in ingredient little by little, with sufficient soup. Then slowly adding the ingredient in any order I like :p Anyway, it is nicer than the other one I'd taken.
The Lei Cha soup base is a little bit different from those we'd eaten elsewhere. This soup is darker in colour. It has sesame inside also. I felt it is lack of mint taste.
Ang Chao Vermicelli 红糟面线 @ RM 6. This is the first time all of us tasted this noodle, don't know how to comment :p
Fried abacus 算盘子 @ RM 10. A dish made of yam. I still like WM's mom homemade abacus ;)
KH ordered Lei Cha and rice wine chicken for takeaway for SP :D
When we were almost done, the topic was about creativity. KH suggested a game (sort-of), each person took a picture from the same scenery, which is the decorative item rack from picture no. 4 above. Can you see where I took picture below? :p The plum flower is nicely drawn on the kettle. Oh yes, my chinese name contains the 梅 word ;) Will try to have this game in every upcoming gathering :D
