tuesdays with Morrie

Some excerpt from the book tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

The first tuesday : “Love is the only rational act.”

The second tuesday: “I don’t allow myself any more self-pity than that A little each morning, a few tears, and that’s all.”

The third tuesday: “What if today were my last day on earth.”

The forth tuesday: “Once you learn how to die, you learn how to live.”

The fifth tuesday: “If you don’t have the support and love and caring and concern that you get from a family, you don’t have much at all. Love is so supremely important.”

The sixth tuesday: “But detachment doesn’t mean you don’t let the experience penetrate you. On the contrary, you let it penetrate you fully. That’s how you are able to leave it.”

The seventh tuesday: “You have to find what’s good and true and beautiful in your life as it is now. Looking back makes you competitive. And, age is not a competitive issue.”

The eighth tuesday: “If you’re trying to show off for people at the top, forget it. They will look down at you anyhow. And if you’re trying to show off for people at the bottom, forget it. They will only envy you. Status will get you nowhere. Only an open heart will allow you to float equally between everyone.”

The ninth tuesday: “There are few rules about love and marriage: If you don’t respect the other person, you’re gonna have a lot of trouble. If you don’t know how to compromise, you’re gonna have a lot of trouble. If you can’t talk openly about what goes on between you, you’re gonna have a lot of trouble. And if you don’t have a common set of values in life, you’re gonna have a lot of trouble. And the biggest one: Your belief in the importance of your marriage.”

The tenth tuesday: “The problem is that we don’t believe we are as much alike as we are. Whites and blacks, Catholics and Protestants, men and women. If we saw each other as more alike, we might be very eager to join in one big human family in this world, and to care about that family the way we care about our own.”

The eleventh tuesday: “Forgive yourself. Forgive others. Don’t wait..”

I like the 5th Tuesday, but I don't agreed with 10th Tuesday, because there are nobody alike in this world, isn't that true?

I guess he is trying to say (read in cantonese)“人地都系有阿妈生的”。 Hehe

人类大同, similar to 世界大同. 待人如待己,这样就可以减少纷争,猜疑,战争,妒嫉。

I hope I can really do that, just that there are always somebody that I can't withstand his behaviour. Tell you when we meet :)
