World Vision Photography Exhibition May 27 - 30 @ Queensbay Mall, Penang.

What do you see this world from your eyes?
What does a child see this world from their eyes?
What does a child sponsor see the child's world from sponsor's eye?

Don't know the answer? If you still have sometime today, and happen to read this, pay a visit to World Vision Photography Exhibition at Queensbay Mall North Zone ground floor. This event occurs from May 27 - 30.

After my last participation in One Life Revolution exhibition in Gurney drive, I decided to participate in volunteer job on May 29, although I have to leave before 4pm to rush for a wedding dinner after off duty and missed Lee XinJie sharing session started at 4pm :|

Learn from past One Life Revolution exhibition, I brought some of my sponsor kids annual progress report as well. Those are extremely useful to share my experience and to show to other people. I was there at 9.50am, a lot of shopkeeper came in to prepare for their shop. Since World Vision officer and other volunteer had not reach, I took this chance to experience the exhibition, to get some idea so hopefully I can explain better to other visitor later.

A lot of photographs taken by child sponsors e.g. Daniel Lee, Lee XinJie, Royce, Deborah, Roshnan and others inside/outside the exhibition tunnel.

For most photo, there will be some feeling sharing by the sponsor under the particular picture. It is meaningful to spend sometime to read and feel it.
Personally, I like photo taken by Daniel Lee, if those with his name were taken by him.

If you missed the exhibition (Please don't blame me for posting so late, I was just... busy...), some photo to share with you :) Oh worth to mention, the whole tunnel was build by recyclable box paper, which some visitor feedback to me the idea is good, recycle and not wasting any resources. (Hopefully those are really used box :p )

From most of the kid picture I saw, they smile, with a sincere and innocent heart. They live their life no matter how hard it is, lack of clean water, no school, no proper home (some live in hut). A lot of parents took this opportunity to educate their children. Some newly sign up sponsor asked if they can bring their kid to join World Vision trip visiting the children, to let their kid experience life where materials were short.

I am so glad that we managed to sign up few child sponsor. (PY I am glad to see you again after so many years!) For the people who 'automatically' stop by to the exhibition, they mostly heard about World Vision, and usually already has the desire to sponsor a child, so they will sign up after seek for some clarification. There were some totally new to World Vision child sponsorship program will sign up too, but a lot of the time, they wish to learn more, which I feel is good enough to create awareness. There are a lot of kind heart around. Some sponsor two children when they first sign up.

When I was in US 7 years ago, I got to know more about World Vision. After I went back to Malaysia, I decided to sponsor a kid after a colleague shared his experience with me. At first, I cut my entertainment fee, you know, less karaoke, less movie, less luxury lunch out (not totally out of entertainment, just starting with less) and there I have RM 50 for a kid education and better life. Later, I signed up another one in One Life Revolution exhibition, I think I can afford that easily, as I seldom buy new clothes. Now, I diversify my focus using other channel as well e.g. Tze Chu, Mercy, WWF , SinChew child sponsor program and etc. There are so many channels to help, if you are willing to :) I will not drop my World Vision child sponsorship if possible, because I believe education is important for children :) They are the stars of tomorrow.

In the general donation box, there were some Singapore dollar notes as well! SN, some Singaporean visitor asked me if there is similar event in Singapore, I shared your 30 hours famine camp of which Ah Mei was there :D Thanks to the kind gentlemen who signed up on the spot although he is new to this program. Thanks to the rest of who has a heart of gold :)

What can you do with RM 50? It might not be sufficient to buy a pair of sport shoes or jeans. But RM 50, it can help giving a brighter future to a kid. Well, if you wish to help Malaysia kids, let me know and I will share other program with you.

To sign up for World Vision child sponsorship program, log onto http://www.worldvision.com.my/ and look for link Sponsor A Child.

World Vision Malaysia is on facebook too. Visit http://www.facebook.com/WorldVisionMalaysia.

Yummy Crepe Cake!

During a gathering few months back, CK brought us a crepe cake. It was peach flavour crepe cake. Crepe cake?! Oh yes, my first time tasted crepe cake :) Some people think the cream is a bit greasy. I am fine with it and can eat few slices :D

Looks like a flower :)

Look at the layers of crepe cake, *drooling*

Thanks to SP, I got the opportunity to see the making of this crepe cake! I am happy that Shirlyn the cake seller allow us to share some of it.

Crepe cake requires no baking but cooling in the fridge. This is one of the reason it requires pre-booking. She recommend 3 days pre-booking, or, at least a day :)

Shirlyn previously operated a small cake shop at Prangin mall. Due to some reason, the shop was closed. Shirlyn operate Crepe Cake online shop in facebook not too long ago. She love to eat cake, and also making cakes.

After long speech, let's start!

First of all, get ready with the crepe. When we reached Shirlyn place, she has most of it ready, left just a piece or two for us to take picture *chuckle* The crepe is a combination of egg, condensed milk and flour. Pour it onto sauce pan with gentle heat. She mentioned this process take most effort in the making. When she first started to do crepe cake, her hand was scalded few times too. Well, practice make perfect! She will try to make all crepe biscuit in same thickness if possible.

She is demonstrating crepe cake of Oreo flavour. Here are the Oreo, after removing the cream sandwich.

Cake is not just simple of stirring and baking. She has to mash the oreo into fine pieces.

Then stir the oreo into the cream. Cream play an important role in crepe cake. It determined the cake taste. Well, I like it apparently, or else won't be able to eat few slices in once :D You may specify the butter level preferred when place the order, then she will customize accordingly.

Then, put a crepe as base. She like to choose a nicely shaped crepe for that. She felt making a cake is like building a house. A good base is essential :) Then apply cream, put on another crepe, apply cream and repeat this step. Shirlyn shared with us some crepe cake is 20 layers. But for her, she usually doesn't count and put more than twenty layers, so that the cake looks nicer.

While we chit-chatting, our camera never rest, and her hand too.

Although this is first time we met, but it's a small world, she is friend's of SP's friend. Maybe this could be one of the reason that we chat a lot, not just cake, but also some other topic. She also shared her previous experience in operating the shop. Last time she has to throw away all left over food, which she felt is very wasteful. After operating this online business, she is happy that it is more flexible and she has to waste food no more!

Sometimes she use a 'tool' to help her to apply the cream into even thickness, but for today demonstration, she just use bare hand to do that. Again, practice make perfect :D

Furnishing the cake.

An Oreo flavour crepe cake is done in front of my eyes!

Crepe cake is best to be kept in fridge for at least 2 hours, for the cream to be more firmed. Since we are running out of time, the cake was put in fridge for just 30 minutes, thus you may see the cream is still soft and not too firmed. Thanks to Shirlyn for treating us!

The cream is still soft. I like to eat it by cutting top-down, to feel the layer. SP like it in layer by layer, she felt that is more tasty :D How about you?

How does it taste? I can tell you it taste good although the cream is soft. I love the taste. Oh come on, I don't simply say I like it because it is free. You should know me ;p Well, some of my friend felt it is greasy. So it is really up to individual preferences. Although there are many crepe cake recipe online, but Shirlyn believe there will be people who love her cake (Well, I am one of them now ;

Currently on her menu, there are few flavors, Original 原味,Black/white Chocolate Twist黑/白巧克力,Peach Passion 蜜桃,Strawberry 草莓,Twisted Cheese 芝士乳酪,Peanut Butter花生奶油,Cappuccino 卡布吉诺,Blueberry 蓝莓,Rum & Raisin 朗姆酒和葡萄干, Tiramisu 提拉米苏,Oreo 奥利奥 and etc. All at one price RM50.

If you would like to place order, there are few methods below. She can arrange delivery to your house.

Nyonya Breeze, Abu Siti Lane, Penang

Starve for nyonya food in Penang?

As quoted from wikipedia
Peranakan and Baba-Nyonya (Chinese: 峇峇娘惹; pinyin: Bābā Niángrě; Hokkien: Bā-bā Niû-liá) are terms used for the descendants of late 15th and 16th century Chinese immigrants to the Nusantara region during the Colonial era.

There are few parking lot in front of the shop, we went there early and there was still two for us.

We reserved a table before during lunch. Some of the dish requires pre-booking, check out with them for details! Here is restaurant outlook, oriental style.

Here's what we ordered. The food description in () are as described in their menu, and of course they own the copyright I think :)

Otak-otak 乌达 (Steamed spicy fish custard lined with kaduk leaves) @ RM3.60 per piece. TS like it very much.

Nasi Ulam 凉拌野菜饭 (Steamed rice tossed with salted fish, dried prawns, belacan, kerisik and assorted local herbs) @ RM 7 per plate. This is my first time eating nasi ulam. SF doesn't like it, but the rest of us are okay with the taste. You know, 1Malaysia, 1Taste :p

Acar 阿渣 . Pickled vegetables with sesame. Tasted okay.

Jiu Hu Char 鱿鱼干炒沙葛 (Cuttlefish strips stir fried with pork slices, turnip, carrot, cabbage, onions and mushroom strips; best served with a side of lettuce leaves and sambal belacan) @ RM 12, another RM 2.40 for lettuce

Hong Bak 风肉 (Pork belly chunks and potatoes cooked in a bean paste sauce with local herbs) @ RM 12. Most of us can't accept the taste, sorry, no 1Taste.

Nyonya-style Mee Sua Taw 娘惹面线糊 (Rice vermicelli in a thick, savoury sauce with sliced pork, local melon and prawns) @RM 6 per plate. SP told me there is a nice white mee sua tao in Air Itam which I am yet to try. Compare this to Teow Chew Meng's mee sua tao, I think both also okay although different cooking style.

Ayam Ponteh 马六甲式ponteh 鸡 (Braised chicken with carrots and potatoes in a delicious sauce of bean paste and 'gula melaka') @ RM 12. Okay, this time is 1Taste again, all of us found this quite nice :D

Using blogspot with Google Chrome

Haven't heard of google chrome? Another web browser.

I'd just recently install it, I quite like it, quite fast and slim, with just what I need.

Unfortunately I can't use it to write my blog post. Unlike Firefox, I can't find a way to resize my picture easily. Whenever I click on the picture I uploaded, the resize cursor just never come out.

In firefox, the resize cursor is like below, which I can drag to make it larger very easily.

If you find out a way to resize a picture easily in blogspot editor using google chrome , please let me know :)

*Forget about IE, my least preferences :p
