Kindle or iPad or Tab or B&N Nook?

Hmm, it is 11pm and I have not go to bed. Just would like to write this before I forgot. If not this will never be written if I do not do it today. Arghh, still pending on the writings of Koh Lipe and Europe sharing.

Back to the topic. The consumer tablet market has been getting more and more competitive. I personally feel it is good, more choices. If you love to read, shall you buy an ebook reader or a table? If you google "kindle vs ipad", there are a lot of opinions on the web.

In short,
buy Kindle or B&N Nook IF:

  1. you are a serious text-based book reader
  2. you are looking for device mobility where it is light and small to carry around
  3. looking for e-INK technologies device. There are claims this technology is less harmful to eye. Well, when I google about that, there are actually some opinion saying backlight and e-ink make no difference. However, I personally felt e-ink is more comfortable for longer reading period.
  4. don't mind the book is in black and white (text-based book is usually black and white anyway)
buy ipad or tab IF:
  1. beside reading, you hope to do something else, e.g. movie, game and surfing.
  2. beside text-based book, you hope to read magazine and newsletter with color as well.
  3. don't really bother about the size and weight. Nah, you won't take the device out, you usually use it only at home.
  4. you just like the user experience of the finger work when using ipad or tab. (That is the coolest thing in my younger colleagues world)
  5. it's trend to use tablet, why bother the black and white reader?
I have chosen an eBook reader - Kindle Touch.

A side story. When I travel MAS from KL to Penang, I accidentally left my Kindle in the front pocket. I am so happy that MAS worker reported it to Lost and Found department and I got back my unit after visit their office by bringing along my boarding pass and IC. Thumb up to MAS! Just wonder if it was Air Asia, will it be the same?
Lesson learnt. Always check the front pocket before leave the seat.千金难买一回头

About a month ago, I finished read 幸福在当下 Happiness at this moment. Similar to other motivation book, the author uses a lot of story and experience to convey the idea. Until today, a story still in my mind. In short, the author has a very good academic achievement few years ago and she always get a lot of compliments of that. 2009-05-31 My favorites

Today is Sunday and yet a working day. This is because Thu was Dumpling festival and the company I worked for declared holiday from Thu - Sat, thus have to change Friday working day to Sunday.

Due to some reason, after dinner, we went to Wang Fu Jing for dinner. I won't missed this opportunity to visit WangFuJing bookstore. I'd been to this bookstore during my last trip and I like it. It can be reach by public transport easily, huge and with lots of books. I can spend my day here :D

For the 40 min I have, I manage to locate few of the books that I am looking for, and bought 3 books below:

The books are in Oxford dictionary size and the thickness. 3 of them weight 3.8kg in total :) (I really need to plan well so my luggage will not be overweight :) ) and RMB 132.60 in total.

Here are the collections of the book:
The Bronte Sisters
- Jane Eyre
- Wuthering Heights
- Agnes Grey

Charles Dickens
- Oliver Twist
- Hard Times
- A Tale of Two Cities
- Great Expectations

Jane Austen:
- Pride and Prejudice
- Sense and sensibility
- Emma

- Persuasion

Before I forgot, here is the dinner at Yu Xiang 渝香

From top right, counter clockwise:
1) Stir fried long bean - As that in Malaysia.
2) Steam pork with pumpkin - Similar to 扣肉 style.
3) Tofu in salted egg sauce
4) Pumpkin dessert

If you want to change the visible, you must first change the invisible

Excerpt from Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker:

"Imagine a tree. Let's suppose this tree represents the tree of life. On this tree there are fruits. In life, our fruits are called our results. So we look at the fruits (our results) and we don't like them; they aren't enough of them, they're too small, or they don't taste good.

So what do we tend to do? Most of us put even more attention and focus on the fruits, our results. But what is it that actually creates those particular fruits>? It's the seeds and the roots that create those fruits.

It's what under the ground that creates what's above the ground. It's what's invisible that creates what's visible. So what does that mean? It means that if you want to change the fruits, you will first have to changed the roots. If you want to change the visible, you must first change the invisible."

Although I have not been thinking of becoming a millionaire, I am just looking for comfortable simple life (I do not know if it requires million of dollar :p ) . But I think, words above applied to all human beings in all situation, no only in terms of money, but also personality and attitude.

tuesdays with Morrie

Some excerpt from the book tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

The first tuesday : “Love is the only rational act.”

The second tuesday: “I don’t allow myself any more self-pity than that A little each morning, a few tears, and that’s all.”

The third tuesday: “What if today were my last day on earth.”

The forth tuesday: “Once you learn how to die, you learn how to live.”

The fifth tuesday: “If you don’t have the support and love and caring and concern that you get from a family, you don’t have much at all. Love is so supremely important.”

The sixth tuesday: “But detachment doesn’t mean you don’t let the experience penetrate you. On the contrary, you let it penetrate you fully. That’s how you are able to leave it.”

The seventh tuesday: “You have to find what’s good and true and beautiful in your life as it is now. Looking back makes you competitive. And, age is not a competitive issue.”

The eighth tuesday: “If you’re trying to show off for people at the top, forget it. They will look down at you anyhow. And if you’re trying to show off for people at the bottom, forget it. They will only envy you. Status will get you nowhere. Only an open heart will allow you to float equally between everyone.”

The ninth tuesday: “There are few rules about love and marriage: If you don’t respect the other person, you’re gonna have a lot of trouble. If you don’t know how to compromise, you’re gonna have a lot of trouble. If you can’t talk openly about what goes on between you, you’re gonna have a lot of trouble. And if you don’t have a common set of values in life, you’re gonna have a lot of trouble. And the biggest one: Your belief in the importance of your marriage.”

The tenth tuesday: “The problem is that we don’t believe we are as much alike as we are. Whites and blacks, Catholics and Protestants, men and women. If we saw each other as more alike, we might be very eager to join in one big human family in this world, and to care about that family the way we care about our own.”

The eleventh tuesday: “Forgive yourself. Forgive others. Don’t wait..”
